How many cameras do I actually need?
Most homes need fewer cameras than people think. Count your entry points, not your rooms.
Count entry points first
Front door, back door, garage, and ground-floor windows facing the street. An apartment usually needs 1–2 cameras; a small villa 4; a large villa or corner shop 6–8.
Quality beats quantity
One well-placed 4MP camera covering the gate beats three low-resolution ones pointed at walls. Spend on resolution and night vision for the positions that matter most.
Leave room to grow
Buy a recorder with more channels than cameras: an 8-channel DVR with 4 cameras lets you add more later without replacing anything.
